Life Changes: Failure and How to Over Come It!

I have been a little hesitant to post lately as I have had some changes happen in my life for the good and the bad that has made me fall off the band wagon of raw veganism for the last few months. But part of succeeding is failing once in a while and the obstacles that has happened in my life is one of the reasons I did fail, but I shouldn’t allow that to be an excuse. I am however ready to jump back in full swing! So how do you over come something you have failed or struggled with, my five steps:

  1. Realizing why you failed in the first place and shake it off. Once you have come to terms with your struggles and failures you can shake it off and get ready to jump back into what ever it was that you were trying to accomplish in the first place. For me it was getting healthier. Also don’t let the word FAILURE defeat you! You may fail at something more than once before you get the full swing of things but that’s okay! We are humans weren’t meant to fail and make mistakes.
  2. Research!!! Some times especially when it comes to dieting and exercise, lack of research can often lead to failure. When it comes to raw veganism, research is crucial in order for you to succeed. I hear people jump of the band wagon of this life style all the time saying it was too hard, when really this life style is easy. You just eat fruits and vegetables and some nuts and seeds. But getting the right amount of food can be hard when you don’t research this life style. For men you want to consume at least 5000 calories a day, females you want 3500 calories a day in order to beat those cravings and to succeed. Obviously you need more if your working out.
  3. Motivation. This may seem silly, but right down the reasons why you are doing this life style or the reasons why you are doing what ever  it is you are doing. If you can’t come up with at least five reasons maybe your motivation is quite there yet. If you aren’t fully motivated to make the change, you won’t succeed.
  4. Write it down! By keeping a daily journal and writing everything down from your mood to what you consumed in the day will allow you to see how well you are doing and the areas you need to improve. It will also give you that extra motivation to do better.
  5. Never give up!

Coffee and Tea, Can I Drink It?

One of the biggest questions or concerns with people considering going raw, especially if they were avid coffee or tea drinkers prior, is “Can I still have a cup of tea or coffee?”

The answer is yes and no. The reason why I say this is because while it isn’t encouraged to drink either of these, I do believe that drinking tea once in a while is okay, especially during the winter months. I say tea, and tea only as long as it is loose leaf and herbal and you drink it black. That’s right no sugar or almond milk added just straight up herbal, loose leaf tea. Reason I say herbal and loose leaf is because tea has many benefits and can help with your detoxing process (benefits of tea will be posted later).

However when it comes to coffee, I would suggest staying away from it. Coffee beans are cooked and too much caffeine isn’t great for the body. Once going raw after a week you will notice that you won’t need coffee for a pick me up because the natural sugars in the fruit you consume will give you natural energy.

This is just my opinion on this topic, it is up to you if you choose to listen or not. You can choose to drink coffee, or tea if you choose to, but try to drink it with out added sugar or nut milks. DRINK IT BLACK!

40 Days on a Freeze!

I have left the yoga studio, and as much as it pains me to say this, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Practicing at a yoga studio is great for many reasons, but for me it felt almost like a mission just getting there. With the hours of operation of said studio and my work schedule just made things a little be bit hard. Especially since I was also volunteering at that studio. I haven’t really officially quit yet, well in away I have, since I haven’t been showing up for my shifts, or practicing when I should be. So with all that being said I have put the 40 Days to Personal Revolution on the back burner for now. I guess my mind-set wasn’t really into the program just yet. For some reason I was made to believe that you needed to complete this program at the studio, and while that can prove to be beneficial as you will have all that support, for me it just wasn’t my thing, sharing and reflecting my personal issues and answers to the questions with the whole group. For me yoga is something that can be done anywhere, whether you practice in a studio or at home. In a studio you might progress faster than you would will doing it at home, but after taking a few classes in the studio you learn how to properly do moves, which allows you to practice at home. For me being in the studio I felt like the practices were repetitive, which is fine because that helps you grow in each move, but I want to take my practice to the next level, I want to start practicing Ashtanga yoga.

I will start the program once again on July 8th, but first I must face my yoga instructors and explain to them why I can no longer be apart of the team. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that I can’t not with my work schedule at the moment, and I don’t want to let the others down by constantly not showing up. I also need to grab my mat.

Island Update!

I’ve completed my banana island journey. Even though it was short lived I thoroughly enjoyed it. I experienced amazing things while on this journey and can’t wait until I do it again. I had originally wanted to go for the rest of the month but I ran out of ripe bananas and the amount of time it takes for bananas to fully ripen, it almost seemed pointless to stop for a few days than jump back into so instead I will continue with my 80/10/10 journey as usual.

Benefits from doing a banana island:

  • loads of energy no more coffee for this gal
  • smooth skin
  • regular bowl movements no more constipation
  • weight-loss this won’t happen for every one. The reason why I lost weight on banana island was because I still need to lose some weight. 80/10/10 is made to help bring you to your ideal weight for optimal health and will help you maintain that weight loss, so for someone who is just starting off with 80/10/10 will easily lose weight while doing a mono meal if weight loss is needed. However, if you have been doing 80/10/10 for a while now and are already down to your ideal weight, chances are you will not lose weight by doing a mono meal (maybe a few pounds)
  • happiness I have noticed that I am extremely happy all the time and I always want to share my happiness with others since beginning my banana island journey.

I highly recommend trying a banana island mono meal for anyone looking to start 80/10/10. I can tell you right now my cravings for foods other than fruit and veggies (mainly bananas) is no longer there. I am officially in the mindset to continue with 100% raw.
